Tested: subagent effort set to low, 72% fewer tokens
Claude Code 2.1.316, claude-sonnet-5, one review task, 5 runs per arm. Wall time down 73%; both arms caught all 6 seeded bugs (lenient); the 53% cost-estimate drop is not significant. The older 2.1.197 doesn't have the env var.
